Our Essential

Beliefs

At Journey Church, we believe God has a purpose for every person, and our heart is to help people take their next step in loving God and loving others. We exist to make disciples who impact their families, workplaces, and communities beyond the church walls. While Christians may differ on secondary issues, we unite around essential beliefs rooted in Scripture and historic Christian faith.

The Bible

We believe the Holy Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. Written by human authors under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Scripture is the final authority for faith, life, and doctrine. We commit to teaching the Bible faithfully because it equips people to know God, live transformed lives, and follow Jesus fully. (2 Timothy 3:16–17; Psalm 119:11; John 17:17)

God: The Trinity

We believe there is one true God who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person of the Trinity is fully God, equal in nature and power, working together in creation, redemption, and restoration. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1–5)

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God—fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, revealed the Father, and demonstrated God’s love through His words, works, death, and resurrection. Jesus is the only Savior and the perfect mediator between God and humanity. (John 1:14; Philippians 2:5–11; Hebrews 4:15)

Salvation

We believe all people have sinned and are separated from God, but salvation is freely offered through Jesus Christ. By grace, through faith in His death, burial, and resurrection, we receive forgiveness of sins and new life. Salvation is a gift from God—not earned by good works, but received through repentance and faith. (Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 10:9–10; Acts 16:31)

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is active and present today—convicting hearts, transforming lives, empowering believers, and building the Church. Every follower of Jesus receives the Holy Spirit at salvation. We also believe in the ongoing work of the Spirit, including empowerment for witness and spiritual gifts, exercised in a biblical, orderly, and Christ-centered way. (Acts 1:8; John 14:16–17; 1 Corinthians 12)

Worship

We believe worship is a response to who God is and what He has done. Worship includes singing, prayer, generosity, obedience, and the way we live our daily lives. When God’s people gather, we believe His presence brings transformation, healing, and renewal through the power of the Holy Spirit. John 4:24; Romans 12:1–2; Psalm 99:1–3)

Prayer

We believe prayer is essential to a thriving relationship with God. Jesus Christ intercedes for us, and through Him we can confidently approach God with our needs, gratitude, and worship. Prayer aligns our hearts with God’s will and invites us to participate in what He is doing in the world. (Matthew 6:9–13; Hebrews 7:25; 1 John 5:14–15)

The Church & Community

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ, made up of all believers. God designed the Church to be a spiritual family where people are strengthened, encouraged, equipped, and sent to live on mission. Biblical community is essential for discipleship, growth, and accountability. (Ephesians 4:11–16; Acts 2:42–47; Hebrews 10:24–25)

Baptism & Communion

We believe water baptism is an outward expression of an inward transformation and a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ. We also practice Communion as a sacred remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice and a celebration of our unity in Him. (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:4; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26)

Healing & God's Provision

We believe God desires wholeness in every area of life—spiritually, emotionally, physically, and relationally. While we recognize the reality of trials, we believe God still heals, restores, and provides according to His will and timing, bringing glory to Himself through our lives. (Isaiah 53:5; James 5:14–16; John 16:33)

Marriage & Sexuality

We believe God designed marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman and that sexual intimacy is intended to be expressed within that marriage. We also believe God offers grace, forgiveness, and transformation to every person and calls all believers to pursue holiness and obedience to Christ. (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4–6; 1 Corinthians 6:11)

Sanctity of Life

We believe all human life is sacred, created by God in His image, and worthy of dignity and protection from conception to natural death. Every person is uniquely known and loved by God, possessing inherent worth in every stage and circumstance. Because of this, we affirm the sanctity of unborn life and are called to protect the vulnerable, while extending grace, compassion, and healing to those who have experienced loss, trauma, or past pregnancy decisions.(Psalm 139:13–16; Jeremiah 1:5; Genesis 1:26–27; Exodus 20:13; Luke 1:41–44; Proverbs 24:11–12)

Eternity

We believe Jesus Christ will one day return visibly and physically. Those who have trusted in Him will spend eternity with God in heaven, while those who reject Him will face eternal separation from God. This truth compels us to live with purpose and share the hope of the gospel. (John 14:1–3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; Revelation 21:1–4)
