Finding Refuge in God’s Shadow

Day: 15

Scripture

Psalm 91:1-2.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress”.

Main Idea

Today, we're diving into Psalm 91:1-2. It's a passage that speaks volumes about where we find our true safety. It reads, "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” I love this imagery of dwelling in the shelter of the Most High. It’s not just visiting or passing through, but really dwelling, living in the presence of God. When we talk about resting in the shadow of the Almighty, it's so vivid. When you're in someone's shadow, you have to be close to them. It's about intimacy, being near to God, and in that closeness, finding protection. You know, it reminds me of a time when I faced a really tough situation. I felt overwhelmed and vulnerable. But in those moments, I realized that leaning into my faith, finding that closeness with God, was like being in a fortress. It gave me a sense of security and peace that I couldn't find anywhere else. That's a powerful experience. And it's something we all can relate to. We all face challenges where we feel exposed or frightened. But this scripture invites us to surrender those fears and find safety in God's presence. This isn't just about physical safety; It's about emotional and spiritual protection too. When we say, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust’, we're acknowledging that our ultimate security, in every aspect of life, comes from God.

Leaning into our faith, finding that closeness with God, is like being in a fortress, it gives us a sense of security and peace that we can’t find anywhere else.

Application

Take a moment to reflect on Psalm 91. Is there an area of your life where you need God to be your refuge? Bring that to Him right now in prayer. Ask Him to show you what it looks like for Him to be your refuge.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for being our refuge and fortress. Help us to dwell in Your shelter and find rest in Your shadow. In all the challenges we face, let us remember to draw near to You, trusting in Your protection and love. Amen.
