Government

Day: 7

Scripture

1 Timothy 2:1-2

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Main Idea

Today we’re going to focus on praying for our government. 1 Timothy 2:2 says: “First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made on behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” This tells us that you and I have a part to play in influencing our government not just with our vote, though that’s important. But even more importantly through our prayers. Government isn’t about special interest groups, election campaigns, or even the president. Government is actually God’s idea. He rules and reigns over all He has created and He expects those in authority to operate in a similar manner. Jesus said that you and I are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Salt adds flavor and light helps lead the way. Jesus has called us to make life better and to lead the way for others in our world. Yes, that means our families and friends. But it also means those who are in governing positions. In fact, there are some of you who may be called to stand in a place of influence like Daniel, Esther, Joseph, Peter, or Paul and impact leaders with the Gospel. But all of us are called to pray for all government leaders, whether we voted for them or not. And when we do, we know we’ll see the type of change only God can bring.

All of us are called to pray for all government leaders, whether we voted for them or not. And when we do, we know we’ll see the type of change only God can bring.

Application

Take a moment to pause and pray for our government leaders. Join us in praying for wisdom, discernment, and integrity.

Prayer

God, we recognize that all authority comes from you. There is no authority apart from you. And we also recognize that we have a responsibility to pray for them. So, right now, we pray for our leaders. We ask you to speak to our President, Vice President, congressmen and congresswomen, senators, governors, mayors, and other municipal leaders. Draw them close to you. Give them wisdom and humility to lead people excellently. And continue to raise up your people to have a Kingdom impact on our government leaders. We declare that you are seated on the throne of Heaven today and reign as Lord over all. We ask these things in Your Name. Amen!
