Surrender

Day: 1

Scripture

Matthew 6:10

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Main Idea

Thank you for joining us in our 21 days of prayer and fasting as we seek God at the beginning of the new year. This focused time is like tithing the first part of the year to God, trusting that as we surrender control and seek His will, He will exceed our expectations. Each day, we'll pray on specific topics. Today, our focus is on "surrender," meaning giving up control and trusting God completely. Choosing to follow Him involves yielding control, exemplified in Jesus' bold prayer in Matthew 6:10 for God's kingdom and will on earth. The term "Kingdom" signifies the king's domain, where His power is ever-present. As Christ followers, we desire God's supernatural Kingdom to break into our lives on earth, expanding through our surrender to His plan. God, as our perfect Father, knows what's best, and surrendering to His authority allows His Kingdom to move freely in and through us. During this time, consider what the King is calling you to surrender—whether it's fully yielding your heart, ending an unhealthy relationship, entrusting health or finances to Him, or releasing control over a challenging situation. Tight control inhibits God's work, but trusting Him allows His Kingdom to move unhindered.

God, as our perfect Father, knows what's best, and surrendering to His authority allows His Kingdom to move freely in and through us.

Application

When you hear the word “surrender”, what is your initial reaction? What area of your life is the easiest to surrender control? What area of your life is more difficult to do so? What area of your life do you sense God is calling you to surrender? Is it your relationships, finances, your future, or something else?

Prayer

God, we want Your Kingdom to move freely in us and through us. But we understand that You require complete and total surrender. Even though this isn’t always easy to do, we choose to surrender to You. Our families, our health, jobs, finances, all of our hopes and dreams, we lay them down at Your feet and give up control. Would You come and have Your way in us each and every day. Amen!
