Worry
Day: 4
Scripture
Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Main Idea
Let’s start today with a question: What are you worried about right now? We’re talking about the thing that might keep you up late at night or the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning. Maybe it’s a financial need or a relationship that is in need of repair. No matter what it is, whether it is “big” or “small”, you don’t have to worry about it anymore. In Philippians 4:6, the Apostle Paul gives us the antidote to worry in three simple words. He says: “Do not be anxious about anything. But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” The first component mentioned is prayer. This is simply having a conversation with God, and we will practice this in just a moment. The second action mentioned is supplication. This is just a big word that means to “plead your case.” Lastly, Paul mentions the position of “thanksgiving.” This may be the most important of all. We thank God for who He is, what He has done in your life, and what He is doing. As you remind yourself of God’s goodness, the issues you’re dealing with will begin to diminish and lose their grip on your heart. Whenever you find yourself feeling worried about something or someone, walk through these three steps and watch God change your heart. It might be a new way of thinking for you, so give yourself some grace as you navigate this process.
We thank God for who He is, what He has done in your life, and what He is doing.
Application
Right now, pause for a moment and engage in a conversation with God. Whether it's a silent thought, a spoken word, or a written note, express your worries to God. Identify one worry that has been lingering in your thoughts. Write it down, speak it aloud, or meditate on it. Intentionally express gratitude for who God is and what He has done. Reflect on the positives, no matter how small, and express thanks.
Prayer
God, thank you that I don’t have to worry about anything because you’re in control of everything. I can pray and have a conversation with you at any time. I can also plead my case with you and know that you will always do the right thing for me, even when it may not feel like it. I can trust you and your timing because you are good. So, right now I choose to thank you for who you are and what you’re doing. I lay my worry down and receive your peace. Amen!
